Trevar (Des Moines, IA) came to the MnJHL as a forward for the Rochester Ice Hawks but now joins the Crusaders, so far playing 5 games and getting 1 assist. He’s played since he was 10, playing Association hockey and the Des Moines Jr Buccaneers in high school. He played in the Midwest HS Hockey League (AA) and was part of the team that won the Midwest and HS League Tournaments in the 2009-10 season. This season he not only wants to work on his skills off the ice and attend Total Hockey/Exceed Hockey, his biggest goal is to be a part of the Crusaders winning a National Championship. Contributing his strength with shooting the puck, he’s also realistic about the game: “if you work hard, you won’t get yelled at.” Trevar is at his best with a calmer coach and doesn’t mind one who gets on him at the right time but doesn’t raise his voice.
In Trevar’s free time he enjoys playing baseball and hanging out with friends. You can view his MnJHL stat here.
Matt, 20 yrs old, already has experience with the MnJHL, playing with the MN Wildcats in the 2010-11 season. Furthermore, the center forward from Thief River Falls, MN played 41 games with 17 goals and 25 assists (42 points total). He also played on the Best of the Rest team for the National Tournament. This season, he started with the Minot Minotauros of the NAHL, playing 31 games with 4 goals and 4 assists. His first game with the Crusaders was January 14th, 2012 against the Northern Lights. After 4 games with the Crusaders he’s made 2 goals and 3 assists and wants to continue winning. He feels the Crusaders are a better team and expectations are a lot higher. His strengths are his size and his experience: he’s stronger than a lot of players, he’s good in the corners and he skates well. With the will to win as a huge motivation Matt works out 4 days a week and works with his high school coach in the off season. He plans to utilize Total Hockey/Exceed Hockey and working hard, no matter what team he plays for.
In his free time Matt likes to hunt, fish and golf. He enjoys all sports and plays in a men’s softball league in the summer. He’s currently sharing an apartment with fellow Crusaders Mike Thebault and Mackie Hayman. You can view his MnJHL stats here.

Recent 2011 high school graduate Cody Bishop joins the goalie roster as a first year Crusader this 2011 season. Growing up mostly in Pierre, SD, he’s enjoyed playing for 12 years, starting in 2nd grade. He was the goalie for the Capitals, a team in the South Dakota Amatuer Hockey Association (or SD High School League) before he was accepted to play with the Crusaders. The Capitals were the SD High School State Champions last season.
Bishop has always been around hockey, influenced by his older brothers (he also has a younger sister). Even during a brief time living in North Carolina, he managed to find a street game to practice with. Even Pierre’s Hockey program is relatively new compared to the MnJHL, its organization starting in 1994. Bishop’s favorite thing about being a goalie is the unique skills and techniques that he’s acquired in his position. He considers each game a new challenge every time.
He uses his quickness and mental toughness to keep him strong on the ice and hopes to use Total Hockey in Hudson to help increase his strength. He would like to lead the league in save percentage and continue to develop his skills throughout the season. He’s motivated by the presence of the Crusaders’ goalie Coach, Elliot Hogue, having never had a goalie coach before. Bishop’s ultimate long term goal is to play with a Division I team, but would be just as excited to play on a Division III team.
This season, Bishop’s goals off the ice are to work 30 hours a week in hopes of supporting most of his stay with his billet family in Hudson. He enjoys hanging out with friends, is involved in his church in Pierre, SD, and likes to bike and play Frisbee golf.

Russell recalls going to Nationals as his most memorable moment from last season as well as meeting new people and making new friends. He’s also proud of being Player of the Month (Feb 2010) and making the MnJHL All-Star team. In the off season he worked for Curb Masters in S St. Paul, worked out, and played some puck. This season as defense for the Crusaders his goals have changed to being a better on ice leader as well as off ice. He also wants to score more points than last year so he will be playing at a solid school next year.
Now that Russell is assistant captain his attitude has changed – he works hard to push the team rather than letting him and them slack off. “The one thing I would tell the rooks would not to take full advantage of their freedom [off the ice]. They need to work hard every chance they can.” Russell also wants to work on his vision and his stick handling with Total Hockey again, as the training also improved his game last year.
Russell is still working at Curb Masters and enjoys hunting, fishing, and hanging out with teammates, friends and family. He also enjoys playing Mario Cart on Nintendo 64 (“NOT Wii,” he comments). He is supported by his billet family, Jamie and Mark Callies.

Our Wake Forest, North Carolina defenseman is back for another season with the Crusaders and Mackie is making it a point to be more productive on the ice. “I want to step up as a leader and work as hard as I can with each opportunity I get.” In the off season he trained as much as he could, worked and went to school. This season he wants to continue to stay in shape, work on his foot work, and make the best plays possible.
Last season, Mackie’s most memorable moment was the game winning goal during the Feb 19 game with the Ice Hawks. He continues to be a leader to first year players. “Work hard from day one till the end and take advantage of this type of opportunity.”
In his free time Mackie plays guitar and freestyle raps.

After Eric moved from Baltimore, MD to Madison, WI his dad took him to a Badgers game and he’s been in love with hockey every since. Eleven years later at 18 years old as a forward with the Crusaders, he enjoys being part of a team the most. Starting his second year as a Crusader, the Appleton WI native’s goals have changed. “Now I know how hard I have to work to be the best I can be.” Building from the trip to Nationals last season and great memories he has with “some of the best guys I know,” Mike wants the Crusaders not just to get to Nationals again this season, he strives to win Nationals. He’s also watched his attitude change and wants to be more of a leader to first year players. During the off season he went to school for half the summer, played hockey two times a week and worked out every other day to get himself in the best shape he could be come season time.
Mike still admits there are things he needs to work on, just like any other hockey player. For example, he needs to work on his stickhandling and vision on the ice. “These are just two of the many things that Total Hockey helps with,” he comments. His advice to younger players starting junior hockey is to take advantage of the opportunity and play every game with everything they got. “If you do this, your future is in your hands and anything is possible.”
During the season Mike is working at Total Hockey and taking online classes. He works out, plays poker, fishes and boats in his spare time. More importantly, Mike spends “glorious time with my teammates.” He is sharing an apartment with fellow players Nick Townes and Mackie Hayman.
